Domestic Violence Restraining Orders

Domestic violence is abuse or threats of abuse when the person being abused and the abuser are or have been in an intimate relationship (married or domestic partners, are dating or used to date, live or lived together, or have a child together). It is also when the abused person and the abusive person are closely related by blood or by marriage.

Civil Harassment Restraining Orders

If you feel harassed by someone, or if someone says you are harassing them, they may seek to get a restraining order to protect themselves. This type of restraining order is difference from a domestic violence restraining order in that the abusers can be your neighbor, your friend, a member of a friend’s family. This type is used for anyone that is not related to you.
